Colour Stories

On Friday, Nov. 22, the 4th annual “Colour Stories” design show, put on by design students at Cleveland State University took place at the Middaugh Building from 6-9 p.m. It was in conjunction with the Cleveland State branch of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). Posters were made to display what colors mean to each individual artist and were part of a larger campaign. The images on the right with the light bulbs with the brains in them were made as part of a campaign to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s, for example. According to Gia Paulovich, a Cleveland State design student and one of the event’s hosts, the event was there to showcase the work that the students did throughout the semester. Bystanders had a chance to review the students’ work and help themselves to snacks. “We have several different projects out from the beginning of the design curriculum to the end,” Paulovich said. Some students created toys with gender-neutral packaging. “Some people created t...

'Avengers: Endgame' Discussion

I'm not sure when I got hooked on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I remember seeing 'The Avengers' in 2012 and not really caring because the movie I was REALLY anticipating was 'The Dark Knight Rises,' coming out later that summer. I liked the movie just fine, but I think I finally got hooked with, what remains to this day my favorite MCU film, 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier.'  By the time 'Infinity War' came around last year, I'd been counting down the days until its release.  Watching pirated trailers, reading fan theories, basically turning into Ted Mosby (subbing Avengers movies for 'Star Wars').  I've now seen the movie twice.  The rules are, you can live tweet 'Game of Thrones,' but thou shalt not discuss 'Endgame' spoilers. My girlfriend hates these movies, so with that combination, I have no outlet to talk about the movie. So here it is. I have some thoughts about the movie that I want to share without t...

The Sashi Wars

Who gets credit for the recent (semi) success of the Cleveland Browns?  It's a radio topic more common than, "Whose better, MJ or LeBron?" at least in the Cleveland area.  You're either pro Sashi or anti-Sashi, with nothing in between.  Here, I have compiled a list of all the major events that took place at the time that Sashi held the general manager position of the Browns.  He occupied the position from January 3, 2016, to December 7, 2017. I did not count the hire of head coach Hue Jackson, as that was the choice of Jimmy and Dee Haslam, which is I know, shocking, given their track record. Here are the notable moves Sashi Brown made as Cleveland Browns GM: 2016 FREE AGENCY Notable Additions: Terrelle Pryor:  Technically, the Browns had Pryor in 2015, but he was waived before later being re-signed at the end of the season.  But this class had no major additions, so I had to put something  here.  Sashi was tearing this thing down to the...

The Cavs, football picks, and why I'm Rocky getting his ass kicked by Apollo Creed

The Cleveland Cavaliers are back in the news again.  It's oddly the first thing that has happened to the Cavs since they played in the 2018 NBA Finals and nothing has happened since then and nothing you can say will change my mind. Kyrie Irving called LeBron (like really, do I need to include his last name for you to know who I'm talking about?  LeBron... Smith?) and apologized.  Since the Cavs apparently don't play basketball anymore, I'm gonna talk at nauseam about it. The first thing I honestly thought about were all the people on Cavs Twitter that are always, "It'S tIme TO mOvE oN, LeBroN DoEsn'T plAY HeRE anYmoRe."  Oh for fuck sake.  The Cleveland Cavaliers, the team that used to wear THESE JERSEYS made the NBA Finals FOUR CONSECUTIVE YEARS. They just had a team with 3 future Hall of Famers, with arguably the best player of all-time and inarguably the best player of the generation.  So yeah, the city is gonna dwell on that for some ti...

The Browns hire Freddie, and what's been happening in my life in the month since my last post

I've been sick 3(!) seperate times in the last month.  I've had more diarrhea than Steelers fans watching the Browns' last drive against the Ravens, you know, the one that knocked them out of the playoffs (HAHAHA).  By the way, 'diarrhea' might be the hardest word to spell in the English language.  Maybe that's why they spelled it that way - the wordmakers were going to make it as inconvenient as possible for anybody to ever use it.  Oops. So now that we got the important stuff out of the way, on to today's update:  The Browns hired Freddie Kitchens to be their head coach.  Here is my take on the hire:  I have no take. Allow me to explain.  For the better part of the last month, I have seen #BrownsTwitter have one opinion after another about who the next head coach of the Browns should be.  "Don't hire Mike McCarthy, he failed in Green Bay!"  "Adam Gase?  The guy that the players supposedly hated?  PASS."  "Bruce A...

The Return of Carlos Santana

Indians Twitter is a funny place.  It's as if people are just suddenly grasping that the Indians aren't the New York Yankees or Los Angeles Dodgers.  Yes, the Indians are going to make moves to try and save themselves money, but that doesn't mean everything they do is strictly a salary dump.   Would you rather have 2 years of Carlos Santana for $29 million or 1 year of Edwin Encarnacion for $25 million?  Before you answer that, keep some things in mind: 1.)  Encarnacion has seen his WAR decline in each of the last 4 seasons: 4.5 in 2015, 3.8 in 2016, 2.8 in 2017, and 1.9 last season.  For a hitter that depends on his ability to hit a fastball out of the ballpark, entering his age 36 season, those are rapidly declining numbers.  Yes, he still hit 32 home runs last season and drove in over 100 runs, but be honest - did you ever feel that presence in the lineup?  The Houston Astros sure didn't.  Maybe that isn't fair, as not even te...

My Thoughts on the Indians' Off-Season (so far)

The Indians traded Yan Gomes today, and as can be expected, Twitter was completely rationale about the move.  Ok, not so much. But this was a move that was necessary for the Cleveland Indians, even though it does not directly improve the 2019 roster.  Gomes is due a little over $27 million over the next 3 seasons.  It's not a ridiculous sum, but for a team that operates in the mid market, it's steep for a catcher that has largely underachieved for the past 3 seasons. The Indians operated at a $145 million payroll last season, the largest in club history and 14th highest in the big leagues.  That doesn't account for arbitration eligible players, such as Francisco Lindor, who will go from making $500,000 in 2018 to around $10 million in 2019.  Trevor Bauer's salary will jump from just over $6 million to somewhere in the $10 million range.  Corey Kluber will make over $17 million next season, getting a raise due to a kicker in his contract that set in o...

The Most Disappointing Loss of my Cleveland Fan Life

Well, that fucking sucked.  Fisting a Bud Light Lime that takes me back to my college days (the first ones), I try to gather my thoughts and get some shit out that's been building all day.  Here we go. I still remember the first time I felt this way.  Tuesday, October 13th, 1998.  The Indians had just played Game 6 of the ALCS in Yankee Stadium and lost, 9-5, crushing my 8 year old spirit.  I sat on the living room floor with my parents in my blue mesh Jim Thome jersey, carefully watching every pitch on the edge of my seat.  Things did not look good early, until Thome hit a grand slam off David Cone to the upper deck to bring the game to 6-5.  But that was it, and I was heartbroken.  And that is the way I feel every. Single. Time. My team gets eliminated.  It never changes. I remember how I used to think that certain cities deserved it over others.  Sure, the Baltimore Orioles are never a good playoff team, but the Baltimore Rave...

Purple Haze

Welp, we traded Josh Gordon.  For a 5th round pick. "But wait, Tom Brady was a 6th round pick!"  Eat my ass.  The Browns suck at drafting and we all know it. To sum up my feelings on the trade, I give you a COMPLETELY HYPOTHETICAL, and not based on any personal experience, scenario that I 100% made up in my head, and I feel it applies: Trading Josh Gordon for a 5th round pick is like when you have a weed dealer that always has the dankest shit, but he never answers his phone.  You put off your hope until tomorrow, until something suddenly comes up.  He fell asleep.  He was at the movie and couldn't check his phone.  His mom was up late binge watching 'The Big Bang Theory.'  Each time you justify it, "Oh well, they say 'The Big Bang Theory' is the most watched television show on primetime cable, that actually makes sense." Then he'll give you that tease, where you get some shit with purple in it and it's just incredible.  You ha...

NICE JOB YOU FUCKING KICKER

HOW ARE WE NOT ON HARD KNOCKS EVERY YEAR: If you don't think the last 18 hours don't represent everything that the Browns choose to be, then I really don't know what to tell you. Is there a more comically inept franchise in the history of sports? Where else do these stories happen?  Linebackers arrested for insider trading, receivers with more talent than God that can't lay off drugs meant for college freshmen, OUR PETS HEADS ARE FALLIN OFF!  Hard Knocks needs to have the Browns on speedial the way Leonardo DiCaprio has 19 year old models on his. Josh Gordon is like George Costanza when he tried to get fired from the Yankees, dragging the World Series trophy in the parking lot and spilling spaghetti sauce all over a vintage Babe Ruth jersey.  Over the past few years, I'm convinced Gordon could've walked right into the general manager's office, shit directly onto his desk, and they would've retaliated by... firing the head coach.  "Let...

EMINEM VS MGK

Are we really gonna ignore that Machine Gun Kelly called Eminem's 16 year old daughter hot?  Yeah, fuck that. I'm with Marshall on this one.  I haven't been this proud to be white since 'White Chocolate' was the star of the AND1 mix tour.  Listen, being white is fucking easy... yes, we occasionally have to be over the top in our racism outrage, just so the other races don't hate us.  But when it comes to hip-hop, dancing, basketball, being born with muscles that would make even Hercules marvel... we're mostly screwed, unless we can hit 3 pointers.  Or we're the "crafty, with surprising quickness" 5'9 receiver that plays for the New England Patriots.  But hey, I'm not complaining.  I've gotten out of more speeding tickets than I care to count, I have it good. Eminem, to us, has always been our knight in shining armor.  He's the Randall Cunningham of the rap game.  Battling race his entire life, coming up being a battle ra...
